What is the difference between Brown Duck and Sandstone?

Brown Duck is a tightly woven canvas fabric made of 100% ring-spun cotton. Sandstone is the very same fabric that has been treated using a process called micro-sanding which results in a much softer hand or almost a brushed look to the fabric.

What is Duck Material?

"Duck" in this sense, comes from "doek," a Dutch word for canvas cloth. This type of material is tightly-woven, and made of plied yarns (so it doesn't twist on itself). It's so strong, it's been used for tents and sails.

Cotton duck is breathable and water-resistant. In clothing it tends to keep out the wind while resisting snags.

Is my Carhartt garment waterproof? Do I need to retreat my Carhartt garment?

Many of our garments are water repellant. Carhartt traditional garments are produced from the duck fabric and are treated to provide water repellency.
After one to three washings, the fabric must be retreated. There are a number of products on the market you can use to do this. They can be purchased at a local grocery or hardware store. Follow the instructions on the bottle when applying. We recommend that you retreat with a water repellent product.

How do I choose my size in Bibs
When ordering bibs, order two sizes larger than waist size. For example: for a 34x32 pant, in bibs you would order 38x32. This applies to a slimmer build. However, If you are trying to determine the size needed for a man
with a larger girth, measure above the waist of his pants, around the thickest part of the stomach. This is necessary because the upper snaps on bib overalls are well above the waist band in pants.

Should I order a larger size if I layer other garments underneath?

Yes. Layering is a very effective way to stay warm but it also means you need a larger size to accommodate the extra clothing underneath. We suggest measuring your size while you wear the undergarments you plan to use.
